100 Words: Life, Sliced Thin by =BornBlitzed:iconBornBlitzed:

The young man strides along Barham Boulevard, long legs chewing up the pavement. Unsurprisingly, his shorn head (already starting to itch) doesn't draw undue attention; this is Hollywood.

He regrets not springing for a limo. From Cartoon Network's studios, the walk to the WB lot is pleasant enough—except in December, with a steady Pacific wind ruffling his suit and blowing his silver tie (an early Christmas present) into his face.

Three minutes later, a donut-happy rent-a-cop checks a clipboard and requests his ID. "Mike Rosenbaum, to see Alfred Gough. I'm here to test for the part of Lex Luthor."

:orange: Some slices of life are more filling than others.

This makes my second *fotoFRIDAY fan-fiction drabble that's not really a fanfic.

Inspired by their Week Two theme: drabbles.

The photo in question: [link]

(And to any purists out there: I realize those studios are actually in Burbank; and no, that's not actually Michael Rosenbaum in the photograph. In keeping with the whole Hollywood theme, I claim dramatic license. :D)

Update, as of June 8: :omfg: Second place! [link]

Fun to read – this is an excellent take on the photo. I especially like the way you ended it, the guy's a shoe-in for Lex Luthor even without the limo.

Congrats on the 2nd place! Nice twist to this story...I love hyphenated words (donut-happy rent-a-cop) you can get a lot of mileage out of those. ;)

Thank you; this was fun to write.

Some people hyphenate to work the word count; I'd rather use it to sneak in some vivid imagery whenever I can. (For example, I could've gone with 'overweight guard' instead. :bleh:)

And here's another simple trick: Italicizing that 'is' in the first paragraph freed up two more words. (The sentence had originally read, "This is Hollywood, after all.") Without that, the poor security guard might not have had a clipboard to check. ;p

:icongimppac:
haha, all good tricks indeed. Sometimes trying to fit everything into a certain frame makes me have to be a bit more creative in my word choices...I often find it ends up being better than I first envisioned it. :)

Cheers!
